Welcome to Belper Mens Hockey Club
Men’s hockey has been played at Belper Meadows since 1908, and the club has built up proud and countrywide renowned traditions of sportsmanship and friendliness that present day teams continue to uphold. We currently run eight teams ranging from the lads and dads in the eighth to the elite in the first team.
The first team play among the cream of English Hockey in the English Hockey Premier League.
It has been a remarkable few years or so the the club, which started with Belper constructing a water based pitch at Belper Meadows. In 1999/2000 season the first team were relegated, only to stay up on a technicality. The following season they won the Midlands Premier Division and the old National League playoffs to gain National League status. From this point we have never looked back. In 2001/2002 season Belper won the National League Division 2 setting the national league record for most goals in a season at 106. During this season the first team reached the EHA Cup final, becoming the first club from outside the top two divisions to do so. The next three years we came 3rd, 4th and 3rd in division 1. In 2005/06 season we won the division to gain promotion to the Premier League In season 2006-7 Belper unfortunately were relegated back to National Division 1.
The key our this success is a great infrastructure within the club, with the rest of the teams playing in the Midlands Leagues. The veterans play regular fixtures and a thriving junior hockey section compete at u11, u13, u15 and u18 age groups.
The majority of this would not have been possible without the continued support of our main sponsors, Bowmer & Kirkland, to which we are extremely grateful as we are to all our sponsors. With a beautiful Derwent Valley setting, marvellous changing and social facilities, and the water based astro turf pitch, it is a delight to play hockey at Belper Measdows for young or old, superstar or beginner.
