Pre-Season 2007-8 Newsletter

Welcome
Welcome to new and old members as we approach the beginning of a new Hockey season. Much has been happening on and off the pitch over the summer months. A number of changes have materialised and here we hope to put everyone in the picture.

Subscriptions
A new Belper Meadows Sports Club (BMSC) system is in place to support the club in the collection of subscriptions. The time and cost to the club and officials in chasing members for payment has been unacceptable and it is up to individuals to do their part and support the club and those who help run it.
This season all present playing members are required to complete a Subscription Renewal Form, which will be distributed during the first couple of weeks in September through team captains, and forward it with payment to the Treasurer Paul Greensmith. New playing members must complete a BMSC Membership Application Form (including £10 joining fee) and Subscription Form with Payment.
A copy of both forms is available here to view: Belper Mens Hockey Club Subscription and Membership Forms
Once subs have been paid then a numbered Membership Card will be issued through the BMSC Management Committee for this year. These cards should be carried and used to allow you to access all the facilities on site. Non-members should be signed into the visitor’s book on the Bar as usual.
All playing members are requested to forward forms and payment before Sunday 30th September 2007. Members who have failed to do this will become ineligible for matches following this date.

Senior/Adult - £99 (No discounted rate)
Student - £79
U18 (1st Jan 2007) - £59
U16 (1st Jan 2007) - £53
Family Membership – Full adult plus half for each child
Non-playing (Social) Member - £10
Please make cheques payable to: Belper Hockey Club

Training/Practice
Training is open to all playing members and is paid for within match fees. So you pay for it if you are playing matches so use it! 1st XI squad training has been going on throughout August and all other sessions begin w/c Monday 3rd September 2007.
MONDAY – Club Training Night 8-9:30pm full pitch at  BMSC Meet on the Astro
TUESDAY – Junior Session 6-7:30pm     1st – 3rd XI Team Training 7:30-9:00pm
THURSDAY – Junior Academy sessions - 5.30-6.30pm    1st XI Squad Training 8-10pm
SUNDAY - Mini Hoc Session 9:30-11am

It would be great to see as many members down at these sessions as possible.

Coaching
In July we were pleased to appoint Ben Lamb as the new 1st XI Head Coach for season 2007/2008. Craig Keegan could not continue due to work and family commitments and we were delighted Ben agreed to take it on board and work to develop the 1st XI squad and the wider club.
Ben has recruited Steve Mills as Manager and EHL Liaison to help co-ordinate things. Andy Collis is helping with some of the Administrative tasks.
Jeff Longden remains 2nd XI coach and will work with Ben and Paul Lawrence in extending Ben and Paul’s Junior Coaching into the senior training environment. Club coaching is vital to the enjoyment and opportunity to develop we hope to provide for all players of all ages. We are working to provide quality coaching at all levels.

Fixtures
The 1st XI begins pre-season games on Saturday 1st September with all other teams beginning a full programme of friendly fixtures on Saturday 8th September in preparation for the league programmes.
We have 8 teams entered into the leagues once again. The 1st XI playing in Slazenger EHL Division One, 2nd XI in Midland Premier Division, 3rd XI in Midland Premier Division, 4th XI in Central League East Midland Premier Division, 5th XI & 6th XI in Central League NE Division One and 7th XI  & 8th XI in Central League NE Division Two.
The 1st XI has entered the EHL Men’s Cup where they enter at Round Two on September 30th. The 2nd XI has entered EHL Men’s 2nd XI Cup when they host Loughborough Students in the first round on October 14th.
This year it is vital the club pulls together and supports all teams if we are to be successful and have an enjoyable season.

Ben Lamb and his squad are keen the club gets behind them as they attempt to build for the future and be competitive this season. The support is vital for all involved. We have lost a number of players, but a number have joined the club and it gives others a real opportunity to be involved and help move things forward. 2nd XI: Capt TOM LEATHERLAND VC MARTIN BECKFORD

DTZ Midland League Fixtures begin on Saturday 29th September 2007 with 12 games prior to Christmas and 10 following the festive break due to an early Easter. The intention this year is to help keep all members up to date with all teams’ fixtures and results by placing them on a notice board in the clubhouse. It is also important we keep the website updated with information and captains are encouraged to make sure this happens.

Juniors
We have to make an effort to complete all BMSC Membership Application Forms for all our junior players in September. That means during September we need to distribute and collect the new forms to all junior players at Training sessions. It is a legal requirement we have these details on file and we must make every effort to do it. There is no joining fee.

Selection/Committee Meeting

The first selection meeting of the season will be held on Wednesday 5th September @ 7pm followed by a committee meeting at 8pm.
Selection will then follow in future weeks at 9pm in the BMSC clubhouse each Tuesday after training, unless a committee meeting is to be held that week.

Play Nicely!
