Season 2011-12 Newsletter
By Nick Morris (Belper Men's Hockey Club Secretary) Email: mozza6@tiscali.co.uk Welcome
Welcome to new and old members as we approach the beginning of a new Hockey season. Much has been happening on and off the pitch over the summer months. A number of changes have materialised and here we hope to put everyone in the picture. Firstly, we thank all outgoing officials, coaches & captains for their much valued hard work. Especially we thank outgoing President John Litchfield for his incredible support over the last half century! We hope he continues his vital association. We hope everyone will make an effort to support the club on & off the pitch. The committee & BMSC committee are working extremely hard to move things forward. As we enter a new era we need to remember this is an amateur sports club and the success, failure & enjoyment is all down to the effort of members. Lots of people like talking fewer actually like doing! This club needs you to be pro-active! This begins with a club workforce day on Saturday 3rd September it would be great to see members involved. As most will be aware this is the first season with new Chairman Nick Fox at the helm. He is keen to get all involved in helping the club make the most of our situation and look to improve. New President (outgoing Chairman) Roger Carter continues to work on the BMSC Committee and support Nick in developing the facilities at the Meadows. We are blessed to play hockey in the beautiful world heritage site Derwent Valley and we need to be practical and make it work for the benefit of all! Paul Greensmith (Treasurer/Team & Match Secretary) & Nick Morris (Secretary) continue in these roles in support of the chairman. Subscriptions The Belper Meadows Sports Club (BMSC) system is in place to support the club in the collection of subscriptions. The time and cost to the club and officials in chasing members for payment has been unacceptable and it is up to individuals to do their part and support the club and those who help run it. This season all present playing members are required to complete a Subscription Renewal Form, which will be distributed via the website & during the first couple of weeks in September through team captains, and forward it with payment to the Treasurer Paul Greensmith. New playing members must complete a BMSC Membership Application Form (including £10 joining fee) and Subscription Form with Payment. A copy of both forms is available here to view: Belper Mens Hockey Club Subscription and Membership Forms Once subs have been paid then a numbered Membership Card will be issued through the BMSC Management Committee for this year. These cards should be carried and used to allow you to access all the facilities on site. Non-members should be signed into the visitor’s book on the Bar as usual. All playing members are responsible for paying before Saturday 8th October 2011. Members who have failed to do this will become ineligible for matches following this date. Sally Cozens will act as Manager and EHL Liaison to help co-ordinate things. Quality Club coaching is vital if we are to provide enjoyable sessions and opportunities to develop. We hope to provide this for all players of all ages. We are working to provide quality coaching at all levels. We hope Ben Lamb will oversee and run club training this season. It is important we keep the website updated with information and captains are encouraged to make sure this happens. Juniors We have to make an effort to complete all BMSC Membership Application Forms for all our junior players in September. That means during September we need to distribute and collect the new forms to all junior players at Training sessions. It is a legal requirement we have these details on file and we must make every effort to do it. There is no joining fee. Selection/Committee Meeting The first selection meeting of the season will be held on Wednesday 31st August @ BMSC 7:30pm as part of a committee meeting. Selection will then follow in future weeks at 7:15pm in the BMSC clubhouse each Tuesday before club training, unless a committee meeting is to be held that week. Belper Hockey Club Handbooks John Litchfield and Ian Lane worked extremely hard on producing an excellent handbook and we still encourage ALL members to promote it as we have quite a few boxes left! Please contact Nick Morris if you can get rid of a few!!! Click here for further details... Events We encourage members to support events held throughout the season and if anyone wishes to run an event then we are more than happy to help them. These events include hosting Sainsbury’s Sport Relief mile around the grounds on the morning of Sunday 25th March 2012. We need hockey members to take part & help run this. We are hosting the last EHL 1st XI league game of the season @ 2pm on that afternoon so should be a great way to end the season, raise some money for a good cause & the club if we get it right. Also, we are hopeful that an Easter Festival will happen over the Easter weekend 2012. Details of these & other key events will be posted on the website and need your support! I wish all members an extremely enjoyable and successful centenary season. Play nicely! |
