Belper Boys Under 12s enjoy day out at the Midlands
Having become Derbyshire champions, the under 12s went through to the Midlands championships which were played this Sunday (2nd May) at Repton. Despite the cold, the team opened their account well against Lichfield with the team taking the lead through an excellent shot from Joe Das from the top of the circle. Belper soon made it 2-0 with James Rogerson slotting home after a good run from Jonathon Hartley. The second pool game against Telford started brightly, but despite having the lion's share of the possession the team couldn't find a way through and succumbed to a good breakaway goal to go down 1-0. Despite this Belper went through to the Quarter Finals as group runners up were they met a strong Sutton Coldfield side who in the early minutes over-powered Belper to go 3-0 up. A strong fightback from Belper saw the team pull a goal back through a Ciaran Cahill penalty corner but time ran out for Belper and they lost 3-1. Some excellent hockey was played by the team and the boys acquitted themselves well.

Volunteers needed for Mini Hockey next season (2010/11)
One of the successes which Belper Hockey Club have enjoyed over the years is the commitment and dedication of the coaches and managers who give their time freely to the children who attend mini hockey.
A number of the current mini hockey managers and coaches will be moving on at the end of this season - April/May 2010 as their children progress through the club. With that in mind, we are looking to gauge interest from anyone who may like to offer their support and take up one of the many roles.
The mini hockey set up which ranges from children age 7 - 12 is a great starting point into a child’s understanding and love of hockey. At Belper we aim to ensure that children are part of a club which does its up most to provide a secure and safe environment with real value with regards to coaching and playing in matches.
We are looking for:
· A Head Coach (Level 2 - or willing to do the Level 2 award)
· Assistant Coaches
· Team Managers for some of our under 10 and under 12 boys and girls teams.
· An Administrator – this role could be shared between two people.

Coaches: Mark Minion, Wayne Murfin, Manager: Paula Bullock
Sunday 21st March saw the Derbyshire Girls Under 12 mini hockey championships taking place at Belper. With only a few friendly games behind them the girls were ready for what should prove to be a very good day!
With only 4 teams taking part, the matches were 15 minutes – just one way, and the two teams with the most points would end up playing in the final .
The first match against Burton B saw Belper A attack well scoring 5 goals. With their confidence boosted the second match against Belper B, saw Belper B defend extremely well with Belper A missing the net on a few occasions in the first few minutes before eventually scoring, the game ended Belper A 3 Belper B 1.
Going into the third game against Burton A, who had also won their previous two games, playing some good hockey, this was the crunch match! Belper took charge from the outset, and the result never looked in doubt – again a great win 3 – 0.
The final was a repeat of the last game – Belper A v Burton A – Belper A winning 2-0.
The girls were worthy Derbyshire Champions, who will now compete in the Midlands Championships on May 2nd at Repton.
Belper U12 boys Derbyshire champions 2010
On Sunday, Belper U12 boys became the Derbyshire Champions by winning the County tournament overcoming Burton 2 – 0 in the final with captain George Minion picking up the trophy.
Belper got through to the final by beating Burton B team 6 – 0, Belper B team 4 – 0 and drawing against Burton A’s 1 – 1 in the group phase.
The top two teams went through to the final and with a really good display of attacking hockey Burton were defeated through two superbly taken goals from James Rogerson.
For Belper this was all the more sweeter as they had lost to Burton 1 – 0 at the same stage last year.
Belper now progress to the Midlands Championships on 2nd May at Repton School.

Belper Girls U12’s South Leicester Junior Hockey Tournament Sunday 11th October 2009
On Sunday 11th October 2009 Belper Girls Under 12’s travelled to Leicester Grammar School to compete in the South Leicester Junior Hockey Tournament. With the honor of going as last years Under 11’s Champions the girls were excited about the challenge. Due to a number of other hockey events taking place over the weekend, South Leicester saw a number of teams pulling out at the last minute. Never the less there were games to be played on what was a nice Sunday morning, unlike the wet and wind that they competed in last year!
The team saw two new additions to the team who competed at Leicester last year, Hannah Davey and goal keeper Lucy Gale. Although the games were only 10 minutes one way the girls soon started playing well as a team and passing the ball, the first match against South Yorkshire saw the girls attack well and win the game 2-0, both goals being scored by Emily Bullock. The second game against a strong Ashby side saw a much more evenly balanced game, with the Belper girls beginning to use the width of the pitch better, and coming out as eventual winners 1-0, the goal being scored by Phoebe Collier from a great pass from Hannah Davey. Game 3, in what was a less structured game, saw Belper win 1-0 (goal scored by Milly Brown), and in the final game, which was the best game of hockey of the morning and a lot more closely contended by Ashby some very good hockey was played by both teams, with all the girls passing well and using the full width of the pitch. Belper were eventual winners with a last minute goal scored by Emily Bullock from 2 passes from the centre – Hannah Davey to Phoebe Collier to Emily! – Belper winning 1-0. A good start to the Under 12’s season, with no goals being conceded.
Team: Emily Bullock, Katie Murfin, Lucy Gale, Hannah Davey, Alice Selby, Charlotte Pritchard, Milly Brown, Phoebe Collier, Lucy Cooke, Brioney Williams

Belper U12 Boys retain trophy - Sunday 4th October 2009
Belper’s Under 12 boys mini hockey team won the South Leicester Hockey Tournament on Sunday to retain the trophy. The tournament was a round robin format with Belper entering two teams – Nailers and Meadows with the Nailers coming out on top. The Nailers opened their account with a hard fought 1-0 win over Leicester, Jonathon Hartley scoring with a crisp shot. The team then played Milton Keynes winning 3-0 with James Rogerson, Joe Das and Harry Barke all getting on the scoresheet. South Leicester were next and again the Nailers proved too strong coming through 3-0 winners with James Rogerson scoring and Joe Das getting a couple with some fine finishing. The final match was against the Meadows team – it was a good contest with both teams putting on a very good display of hockey – Nailers eventually running out 3-0 winners, James Rogerson (2) and Will Goodwin getting the goals. So Joe Das lifted the Belper boys under 12 team’s first trophy of the season. Well done to both the Nailers and the Meadows teams and to the Under 10 boys team who were competing in the younger age category.

Foremarke Tournament U11 Girls - Saturday 3rd October, 2009
Team: Lucy Gale (GK), Lucy Cooke, Eve Bremmer, Katie Murfin, Alice Selby, Phoebe Collier, Hannah Davey, Sarah Glenn
On a blustery Saturday afternoon our Under 11 girls faced strong opposition in a 8 team tournament. In our group of 4 Belper came top with some excellent team hockey. First game against Fairfield ended in a goaless draw, in which we totally dominated, but could not find the goal. The next game against Packhard Haugh School (which took some pronouncing!), was a repeat of the previous game, totally dominating and a superb short corner routine resulted in a goal by Hannah Davey, and a second great goal by Phoebe Collier who was causing defenders a few problems and likewise Alice Selby - 2-1 win. A 1-0 win against Foremarke B put us on top of the group and in the semi-finals. In defence the few the few attacks agianst us were well contained and the few shots on target were well dealt with by Lucy Gale.
As group winners the girls faced Beeston and the game went into extra time and then penalty flicks which we unfortunately lost 1-2. Katie scoring ours with a superb flick. Deflated by this the team lost their 3/4th place match to Foremarke A.
A very enjoyable day was had by all and a pleasing first tournament of the season with Eve Bremmer, Sarah Glenn, Lucy Gale and Lucy Cooke making fine contributions.Belper's player of the tournament was Katie Murfin for her excellent distribution from the back, short corners and unstoppable penalty flick under pressure, shared with Hannah Davey who worked so hard all day and scored vital goals. Thanks go to Foremarke School, mums, dads and players.
