Belper players are representing their country at the Masters Euro championships in London this week. Their tournament runs alongside the Eurohockey Championships. Belper hosted a 7 aside mixed hockey tournament on Saturday 4th of July. Ten teams competed in total, including two from Belper, Amber Valley and Derby, and one from Wulfric and Burton. There was a good mix of visiting teams with two from Nottingham; Nottingham Players, and ‘The Incredibles’, the eventual tournament winners. Wayne Madsen takes on new role in bid to get Nailers back to national League hockey. DERBYSHIRE cricket captain Wayne Madsen says getting Belper men’s hockey club back into the National will be a priority following his appointment as Director of Hockey at the club.
Belper HC U12 Boys have qualified for the National Finals on May 9, having finished runners up at the Regional Finals. After a successful season playing friendlies against local clubs and a strong commitment to training, the U12 boys started on their journey to National Finals at the County Championships held at Belper HC on the 22nd March. The U12 girls made it through to the In2 Hockey Regional Tournament held at Highfields on Sunday 19th April. The squad consisted of Zarah Hobday, Jess Carter, Lily Morris, Olivia Schmidt, Lauren Ford, Sasha Worth, Esme Calder, Poppy Brown and Connie Magill The girls had been practising very hard in the run up to the tournament which paid off on the day. Hard work and determination have paid off for Belper HC girls Sarah Glenn and Hannah Davey who have both been selected for England Hockey’s U16 Girls Squad. With only 26 places available both girls had their work cut out to secure one. Belper U16 Girls finish 5th in Nationals Finals Frustratingly they drew their 1st match against Wakefield, lost to a strong Surbiton and dominated in a win against Epsom. Unfortunately this resulted in them missing out on the 3/4th place playoffs due to goal difference and they finished in a very respectable, 5th place.
