Here's a flavour of Belper Ladies pre season matches.....

Belper Ladies 1s v Cannock

Belper 5-1 Cannock

Belper stares their pre season campaign in earnest, playing hosts to Cannock HC. Belper started well, showing some good intensity, pressing high up the pitch. However Cannock found the early advantage, capitalising on a defensive error and scoring a clean goal. Belper rose to the challenge and found an equaliser through Poppy Brown. Soon after a Sally Goodman hit found the backboard to put Belper 2-1 up. A 3rd goal quickly followed from a Poppy Brown reverse hit, and a Sophie Robinson short corner strike out the game out of reach of the visitors. The home side continued to play hard and a second Sally Goodman goal secured the result for Belper.

Belper Ladies 2s vs Lichfield 1s  (friendly)

Belper 2 – 4 Lichfield
Our first friendly ahead of the league starting was a well paced and well fought game against Lichfield 1s, who play in Midlands Prem a few leagues above. We knew this would be a tough game, but started out amazingly getting a corner in the first 5 minutes, which a slip to the right post slotted home by Dammer! It was a great start and we had definitely surprised them! The game went on and was end to end, with some great passages of play in all areas of the pitch, and it was great to see some new players and juniors taking the lead. Lichfield attacked hard and they came away with some goals. We managed to sneak another goal late in the first half after a good passage of team play, which found Charlotte Gale driving down the base line with a cross to a diving Zara Knowles who did well to beat the keeper! The second half was much tighter, and we felt more confident with our marking and structure which led to an improved performance by us all! Some attacking chances were had, and we were even awarded a stroke for a late tackle on Lucy Cooke. Unfortunately the penalty stroke was saved but we continued to battle on. We were really pleased with that second half performance and hope to take that forward into our next friendly. The final score was 4-2 to Lichfield! Great job everyone!

Belper Ladies 3s v Beeston

Belper 0 – 6 Beeston

The 3s started their Midlands League journey with a friendly against the legendary Beeston. And there was no easing in to this division. The less said about the first half the better a relentless attack from a disciplined experienced team left the 3’s down 5 nil at half time. But after a half time team talk and a refocus the second half saw a much better formation and some positive play from the home team only conceding 1 more to take the final score to 6 nil. The pitch was perfect the spirits were high and we are back!
