Belper Ladies 1s Vs Olton 1s @Olton 0-2

Last Saturday saw Belper Ladies first team play their first national league game of the season away against Olton. After 14 minutes Olton took the lead with a goal from Gerald. Belper dominated the second quarter narrowly missing a couple of penalty corners. Half time saw no change to the score. Belper picked up their intensity second half but unfortunately conceded a goal against the flow of play. Belper dominated the final quarter, again with multiple goal scoring opportunities. The last five minutes saw Belper remove their keeper in their last attempt to score. The final whistle went and despite the score, it was a really positive performance for the team to build on this week.

Belper Ladies 2s vs Loughborough Town

The first league game of the season was on our home turf Belper Meadows, and we knew this was likely to be a well-matched, close game.
Belper had some new faces, but started well, making several penetrations into the opposition D in the first half, but unfortunately not managing many outcomes in the D. Loughborough too had a few attacks which resulted in some short corners before half time which were quickly dealt with by the experienced Belper defence.
At half time the score was 0-0 and it was all to play for in the second half. We knew we needed to remain focused, keep applying pressure with our attacks.
The second half we came out fighting and had more possession with a few great attacks down the wing. Loughborough had a couple of breaks which saw a couple of fantastic saves from Mon in goal for Belper. With 10 minutes to go a break from Belper saw a well-played pass  across the D from Marianne Simmonds and a goal from Charlotte Gale, on her debut return to Belper this season.
We fought hard for the final 10 minutes to maintain our lead. One last counter attack from Loughborough was quickly closed down by a speedy Kirsty MacLeod, returning from behind play to deal with the attack.
The game ended 1-0 to Belper and was a great team effort by all for the first league match of the season.

Belper Ladies 4s v Matlock 3s

The 4s played a last friendly against Matlock 3s before the start of a new season next week. The new look 4th team started strong applying pressure in the Matlock 25 and created a lot of chances but the break through came from Niamh Batchford in her 2nd ever game for the 4s with a strong strike, finishing of a great move in the D. We kept them mainly in their own half for the first 15 minutes before they began to turn the tides and push the 4s back, pinning Belper in to their own half. However another great team move was finished convincingly by Ruth Lane to take us 2-0 up at half time.

The second half began with Matlock pushing hard and converting a short corner with a bobbled shot that bounced over a number of sticks, while their second goal was a good strike by one of their forwards. However Belper struck back with a great run from Tanya finishing with another excellent strike and the game was rounded off by Ruth's second goal, a fantastic strike from a short corner. 4-2 win and great preparation for the coming league games

Belper ladies 5s v Matlock 4s

The Ladies 5s pre-season friendly against Matlock 4s was a great opportunity for them to size up one of their stronger competitors in Division 2 for the coming season. As expected, Matlock started strong but Belper had some stellar defensive play and some brilliant saves from GK Sally which kept Belper in the game. At the other end of the pitch, Belper took advantage of gaps in Matlock's defence and made use of the width, with some great attacking play from Rosie and Rachel down the right wing. Matlock's GK was unfortunately in terrific form, and despite best efforts and several shots on target from Anna, Charlie and Rachel, Belper were not able to get the ball past the line. As the game went on Belper were looking the better side, holding and taking back possession from Matlock and creating chances in the attacking D. Credit is due to Philippa, whose relentless hard work in central midfield meant Matlock had their work cut out pushing into Belper's half of the pitch during the later stages of the game. The game ended at a 0-0 draw, which is a fantastic result against a strong opposition, and gives Belper Ladies 5s confidence going into the 20/21 season next week.
