With a squad of only 12 players this was always going to be a challenging fixture and almost losing one on the motorway with a flat tyre was not going to help. Finding ourselves one goal down in less than a minute didnt bode well and losing Nick P to a pulled hamstring wasnt going to help. As Chris said – it could have been messy. However, everyone stepped up and put in a great performance. The equaliser came from a ball shelled in to the D by Toby and just clipped into the goal by Tom Farr after 15 minutes. After making most of the play for the next 15 a second Belper goal resulted from a penalty corner, again tapped home by Tom Farr. In the second half the lack of subs bagan to tell with the Belper Boys having to withstand sustained pressure from the Saints but with true grit and determination and a great team effort managed to withstand the onslaught for a 2-1 win. A special mention is due to our goalie, Charlie, for this, his first game with us. He made some great saves to keep us in the game.
Many thanks to James for doing a tremendous job coaching the team and, as always, great support from parents.
We now await the draw for the next round which will be played on Sunday 18th November.
