Huge congratulations to the Belper LHC U16  Girls who have qualified for the NATIONAL FINALS in London on the weekend of 28/29th March.

Today, Sunday, we had an early start and travelled to Buckingham for a 10.30am PB for the 1st game.

This was against Buckingham who had qualified for the Regional Finals by winning their group without conceding any goals.

Belper dominated from the start soon going 1-0 up and so disrupting Buckingham’s clear run, but unfortunately conceding a goal just before half time. With great determination and mental strength Belper however went on to win the game 4-2.

A close match against Lichfield then followed with end to end play, Belper scored a disallowed goal just before half time but showed themselves to be the stronger team by scoring a further decisive goal in the last 5 mins which resulted in a 1-0 win.

Despite tired legs the Belper girls then took on the confident Cheltenham girls who had also won both their matches. Cheltenham scored early from a well taken corner, but the girls kept their structure and game strategy which eventually brought a hard won goal. The final score was therefore a 1-1 draw.

Due to the strong match against Buckingham, this final result was enough for the Belper girls to win the Regional Final on goal difference.

Well done girls, for an impressive, determined and tireless team effort.

Special congratulations to Maddie Vaughan, an U13 player (!), who was top goal scorer with 4 goals and also to Emily Dale and Hannah Davey who scored 1 each.

Thanks to James Cozens for stepping in to coach the girls and a big thanks to all the parents who came down to support the all players.

Onwards to London!
