Who does this apply to? 

All Sections of Belper Hockey Club (BHC) adhere to the England Hockey (EH) Codes of Conduct, which apply to all players involved in hockey in England. The content of this Code of Conduct is an extension of EH’s generic code of behaviour and also includes specific standards that we expect of all players at Belper. 

Expected minimum standard of behaviour and conduct 

All such individuals involved in hockey will, at all times: 

  • Respect the spirit of fair play in hockey. This is more than playing within the rules. It also incorporates the concepts of friendship, respect for others and always participating with the right spirit. 
  • Respect the rights, dignity and worth of others. 
  • Respect umpires, officials, coaches, players and spectators. 
  • Conduct themselves in a manner that takes all reasonable measures to protect their own safety and the safety of others. 
  • Never participate when under the influence of alcohol or drugs. 
  • Promote the reputation of BHC and Belper Meadows Community Sports Club and sport taking all possible steps to prevent it from being brought into disrepute. 
  • Accept success and failure, victory and defeat, with dignity. 
  • Set a positive example for others, particularly young participants and spectators. 
  • Protect others involved in the game from verbal or physical abuse and threatening or intimidating behaviour. 
  • Never use inappropriate language or gestures. Never use foul, sexist, abusive, racist or any prejudicial language or tolerate it from players and/or team officials.

Social Media. 

It is the responsibility of all members to: – 

  • Refrain from publishing comments about other clubs, players, or referees and any controversial or potentially inflammatory subjects. 
  • Avoid hostile or harassing communications in any posts or other online communications. Harassment is any offensive conduct based on a person’s race, sex, gender identity, national origin, colour, disability, age sexual orientation, veteran status, marital status, religion, or any other status protected by law. 

Negative posts to be notified to BHC management who have the responsibility of responding on behalf of BHC. 

In addition, we expect all Belper Hockey Club players to: 

  • Take responsibility to ensure they are up to date with the rules, understand and adhere to them. 
  • Pay subscriptions and match fees on time. Failure to pay fees promptly may result in deselection until paid. 
  • Dress appropriately to represent Belper Hockey Club, including wearing the appropriate protective equipment. 
  • Make sure that the needs of umpires and opponents are appropriately addressed before during and after the game. 
  • Leave the pitches and dugouts clean and tidy when you finish your matches, and to clear all equipment from the pitches after training sessions. 
  • Leave the Clubhouse and kitchen as you would want to find them, eg. clean and bins emptied.
  • Respect all volunteers, and the members and guests of the other sections within Belper Meadows Community Sports Club.
