BHC guidance and recommendation has always been for a parent/guardian stay to supervise your child/children during the coaching sessions. This was to help us if your child gets cold, feels unwell, or needs the toilet as the coaches are often managing many children. Unfortunately due to Covid restrictions parents are no longer allowed to enter the pitch area or clubhouse. Therefore we no longer require a parent to stay on site for the duration of the session but ask that you consider the situation for your specific circumastance and decide whether you feel you need to wait outside the perimeter fence or in the car. As a minimum we request that you are readily contactable by mobile in case we need to call you back.

Mini Hockey at Belper Hockey Club is for children aged 5 to 12 of all abilities.

The Mini Hockey Group currently has around 160  participants. We introduce children aged 5 to 12 (school years 1 to 7) to hockey in a safe and fun way. The sessions involve a mix of skills and small-sided games designed to encourage these young players to learn the basics of hockey. Coaching takes place for the U8s (Little Stars) and U10s on Sunday mornings, 9.00am – 11.30am and the U12s on Monday evenings, 7.00pm – 8.30pm, from September to April.

Players are welcome from complete beginners to those who have been playing for a few years. All you need are shin pads and a gum shield to start playing. We will lend you a stick if required.

Hockey matches are organised for the U10 and U12 boys and girls against other local hockey clubs and independent schools. We also compete in the local tournaments run by clubs in the area.

In addition, we compete in the County Mini Hockey tournament where we have been successful in the past few years. Last year all 4 of our teams (U10/U12 boys and girls) progressed through to the Regional Finals.  The U12 Girls won their Regional Final and went to play in the National Finals and came 6th.

Within Mini Hockey we also have a growing number of players both boys and girls who have reached a county (JAC) standard of hockey.
