Belper U12G

Well-done for not just today, but for the whole of the season. Your attitude and approach to training and matches has been fantastic, you have the focus and desire to want to get better, which makes coaching you a rewarding experience.

We were really happy with todays results. I knew it was going to be a tough call to get to the top four places, but actually it was all very close, and not much between the teams in 3rd to 6th position.  Once we’d got over our initial nerves, the hockey was great to watch, and everyone played their part in putting up a fight to get us 5th placed team in the Midlands. The fact that we are mainly a year 6 side playing mainly year 7 sides shows what a great achievement this is.

The results were as follows:

v Newark drew 1-1 Holly

Lichfield Won 2-0 Holly, Beth

v Telford Won 2-0 Tabitha x 2  TOP of GROUP

Ashby drew 0-0 Penalty flicks lost 3-1 Beth QUARTERS

v Stourport drew 0-0 Penalty flicks won 3-2 Beth, Tabitha, Holly

Sutton Coldfield Won 1-0 Tabitha

5th Place from 16

A few thank you’s from me to Liz Griffiths who coordinates everything behind the scenes and gives up an enormous amount of time administrating this section of the club. To Emma for her support coaching and doing the e-mailing, and organising kit. To Cam for giving up his time to come along on Monday evenings to coach and give vocal support, energy and enthusiasm. Finally to Archie for coaching and umpiring when not playing, and Max for umpiring for us throughout the season.

Looking forward to next season, but also looking forward to a break 🙂

U12 BOYS

U12B

The U12 boys competed at Nottingham in the Midlands Regional Tournament on Sunday 30th April.  The boys started the first game and with nerves still settling they let in an unfortunate scrappy goal, this sparked a spirited fight-back but they were unable to find the back of the net.  Second game was a against a strong and well drill Sutton team who were deserved winners.  Final match of the group stage against Telford, slick passing and movement saw them dominating the game much more than the score line suggests.

Third in our group saw us in the lower half of the knock out stages.  Buoyed by the win in their last match, they once again dominated the play winning 2-0 against Ashby.   Next up was Bridgnorth, in a tense match we did everything but score, and it went to flicks.  With nerves of steel Leo, Oliver and Lysander each slammed their flicks right in the corner, only one being denied by a brilliant save from their keeper.  A great save from Lucas, and one slipping past the post from Bridgnorth saw us in the 9/10 play-off against local rivals and hosts Beeston.  In an end to end match with plenty of passion, commitment and some great passing moves from the team, one goal was enough to see us top the our section of the knock-outs.

Thanks and credit must go to the whole U12 squad not just those who played on Sunday for pushing every player hard to earn their place. Thanks also to all the brilliant supporters (parents and family) who were as amazing as ever on yet another cold Sunday morning; Jim Smith for umpiring and coaching all season; Liz Griffiths and Nicola Tompkins for organising us all and keeping us in check, Team manager Graham Souch and lastly super coach Charlie Beddington who gave up his birthday to lead the team.
